Laboure College’s 2 year associates degree will expose students to both classroom learning and hands-on clinical experience. Students will learn pathology, oncology, radiobiology, physics, math, and treatment while taking part in the program. The JRCERT and ARRT recognized program offered at MCPHS is one of the only accelerated radiation therapy programs in the nation. Students that have no previous degree can complete the RTT program in 3 years. While students that already have a BS degree can complete the program in 21 months if all prerequisites are met.

Students in the accelerated Radiation Therapy program will complete all their prerequisites and liberal courses in their first year and then complete all professional courses in the 2nd and 3rd year. Like most of the RT program it will be a mix of classroom and on-site clinical internships.

Clinical rotations will be completed in various affiliate hospitals in the Boston and New England area. The school will try to accommodate students, but may require students attend internships in further locations. This is to give students a range of diverse learning experiences.

Students that have already completed a BS degree from Suffolk University or another college are eligible for this program as long as the following courses have been completed with at least a "B" or better grade:

Umass offers an fulltime certificate programs for certified radiographers or nuclear medicine technologists desiring additional certification in radiation therapy. The 15.5 month program begins each September and includes classes and clinical education scheduled Monday through Friday. Radiation Oncology staff serve as program faculty. Program completion leads to a certificate from UMass Memorial Medical Center (no college credits are awarded). Graduates are eligible to apply for national certification in radiation therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

To be eligible for admission the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  1. Graduation from an accredited radiography or nuclear medicine program with a GPA of 2.65 or higher and be certified in radiography or nuclear medicine technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
  2. Earned a minimum of an associate degree
  3. Successfully completed (minimum grade of C) the following prerequisite college-level courses:
    1. English Composition
    2. Human Anatomy and Physiology
    3. College Algebra. Pre-calculus Mathematics is recommended
  4. Interviewed with the Program’s Admissions Committee

Application Process

  1. The applicant must submit the following documentation to be considered for entrance:
  2. Completed program application form with a nonre-fundable $50 application fee
  3. An introductory letter providing a brief statement of professional goals and personal attributes the appli-cant will bring to the field
  4. Official high school (or equivalent), college and radiography or nuclear medicine educational tran-scripts documenting proof of
    1. Enrollment in or graduation from an accredited radiography or nuclear medicine program (currently enrolled students must show proof of completion prior to starting the Therapy Program)
    2. A minimum of an associate degree (earned prior to the start of the Therapy Program)
    3. Satisfactorily completing (minimum grade of C) all prerequisite college level courses
  5. Three references – the Program requires a completed educational reference form, a completed employer reference form, and a character reference (paragraph style -no form)

The Admissions Committee reviews and evaluates the applicant’s documentation to determine eligibility. Priority consideration will be given to those individuals with application documentation complete by March 30 of the entrance year.

Based upon the review of application materials, a formal interview may be granted. Interviews will be held in April and May. Late admission may be granted if seats are available.

Admission is based upon academic accom-plishments and interview evaluations.
