The program offered at ECC is a 24 month full-time study radiologic technology associates degree with focus in Radiation Therapy technology. By end of the program, students will complete more than 2,200 hours of clinical internship hours

Admissions Requirements

  • Applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent and have a high school average of at least 86 percent.
  • Applicant should have completed two years of high school laboratory science courses (such as biology with lab, chemistry with lab, or physics with lab) with a minimum grade of "C"; or completed a college-level anatomy and physiology course with lab within the past seven years.
  • Have completed two years of mathematics with a minimum grade of "C". (Algebra and geometry are required; trigonometry is recommended.)
  • Erie Community College pretest scores of MTLV4 and E80.
  • Three recommendation forms or letters at time of interview.
  • Students are required to purchase health and accident insurance.
  • An informational interview is required.
  • Students enrolled in the program must submit a completed Allied Health Report and Physician’s Certificate. The college reserves the right to deny acceptance into the Radiologic Technology: Radiation Therapy Technology Program to students who have incomplete or unacceptable physical reports.
  • *Note: Appropriate college math (MT 125 recommended) and laboratory science courses with a grade of "C" or better and an overall QPA of at least 3.0 can be substituted for the high school requirements above.

Students that graduate from this 40+ year old (established 1970) program at Memorial Sloan-Kettering will receive a Memorial Hospital Certificate in Radiation Therapy. It is also one of the largest privatively operated non-profit cancer center in the world. Unlike many radiation therapy programs, students will complete all of their clinical internship at MSK’s facilities. Students are exposed to the latest advances in 3D-IMRT, organ motion studies (gating, DIBH), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), and research protocols.

Students will work with facilities that are equipped with ten Varian linear accelerators (Varian Clinac 600C/6EX/2100EX, Varian Trilogy and Varian TrueBeam accelerators); a Calypso® tracking and target localization system; IGRT technology; two Phillips Brilliance CT Big Bore Scanner, a GE Discovery ST PET/CT simulator; and a Brachytherapy suite.

By the end of program, students will have completed more than 2,100 hours of clinical instruction and 700 hours of classroom instruction.

The program is accredited by JRCERT and NYSDOH.

The New York Methodist Hospital’s School of Radiation Therapy was founded by Sammeer Rafla, MD, PhD in 1989. It offers a 1 year certificate in Radiation Therapy for individuals that already an Associates degree that have met all courses prerequisites. Applicants do not need to hold any certification from ARRT like many other RT certification programs.

This program is accredited by JRCERT and the New York State Department of Health.

SUNY Upstate Medical University offers 2 Bachelors of Science degree in Radiation Therapy. The college only offers upper-division classes so students must first complete lower division classes at an affiliate college.
