CCAC offers a certificate program for certified Radiographers and students with no prior experience in health imaging field. Both programs are accredited by JRCERT.

Both programs are full time. Students of the Associates of Science degree will complete the program in around 2 years (including 2 summers) and students of the certificate program will complete it in 1 year (including 1 summer).

Program Requirements

  • Must be able eligible to take all program college level courses.
  • MAT-108 Intermediate Algebra
  • BIO-110 Introduction to Biological Science or BIO-151 General Biology
  • PHY-100 Basic Physics or advanced placement high school physics with a C or above.
Application Process
  1. Students inquire about the program by:
    • Phone or Email
      Each student will receive, by mail, a complete application packet which includes college, allied health and program application forms with program of study curriculum, prereq requirements and tuition information.
    • A visit to the Student Services Center
      Student will be given preliminary information and advisement about program prerequisites, limited enrollment, etc.
      Student will be asked to fill out application to college and allied health department. Program Director will receive a copy of allied health application. A complete packet will then be sent to prospective student from allied health office.
  2. Follow-Up
    • Phone or office hour advisement
    • Program Director and faculty evaluate all candidates
      grades, motivation, prerequisite efforts, etc.
      Student will receive a letter asking for the following to complete application process:
      • All up-to-date transcripts and grades
      • Criminal Background Check
      • View a career video in the Allegheny Campus Library
      • Resume: Brief summary of recent, pertinent education, work experience, volunteer work or community service, hobbies and interests, awards and honors and memberships.
      • A brief definition/description of the radiation therapy profession with an explanation of student’s choice of career goal.
  3. Spring Semester
    • Faculty and clinical supervisors evaluate prospective student’s paper submissions and make admission recommendations.
    • All transcripts must be available
    • Resume must be available
    • The prospective student (AS degree only) receives a letter asking him/her to visit a hospital radiation oncology department for a 4-hour shadowing experience.
  4. Decision process includes the following:
    • Prerequisite QPA is 2.5 or above.
    • Prerequisites are complete or student is currently registered for prerequisite completion.
    • Paper evaluation comments from faculty and clinical supervisors are positive.
    • Criminal Background Check is clear.
    • Resume and research is professional, well-written and coherent.
      Shadowing experience is successful with positive feedback from clinical supervisor.
  5. Program Acceptance Letter
    Prospective student receives a letter of acceptance, registration form and other documents by mail.
  6. Letter of Non-Admittance
    Students may not have immediate acceptance due to limited enrollment. This letter will ask if he/she would be interested in applying for next fall.

GMC has graduated almost 450 radiation therapist since it’s inception in 1975. The original associates and certificate program were modeled after The Philadelphia School of Radiotherapeutic Technology which was the first radiation therapy program in the U.S. to be accredited by the A.M.A. GMC was also the first JRCERT accredited BS Radiation Therapy program in the Philadelphia area.

Gwynedd-Mercy College offers a certificate and bachelors in Radiation Therapy. The 20 month certificate program is available for ARRT certified Radiographers while the Bachelor’s degree is for high school graduates or college transfer students that meets the program requirements. Radiographers that are interested in the certificate program have the option to complete the degree completion option to earn a Bachelor of Health Science degree.

  • 2 year multi competency BS program where students complete 1 subject 1st year and different one the second year.
  • Students that take Radiation Therapy their first year has opportunity to complete these options their second year:

  • 1 or 2 Year Advanced Placement BS degree for people that already completed a BS degree in Radiologic Sciences or Allied Health. Choice of just Radiation Therapy or multi competency
  • 1 or 2 Year Advanced Placement BS degree for people that carry an ARRT certification or graduated from an accredited Radiologic Science or Allied Health Program. Choice of just Radiation Therapy or multi competency
